On March 18, 2017, by presidential decree number 2760 published in the Official Gazette, 6289, the Liqui Liqui was declared the national costume.

Liqui Liqui has been adopted as a traditional costume of high symbolic value in Venezuelan clothing, because it is a significant part of their cultural manifestations and because it is linked to various social, festive and religious activities,” reads the decree.
