The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, reported this Thursday that there are 34 countries that wish to join the BRICS group in any way, during a meeting with representatives of the block in St. Petersburg.

“As of today, there are more than three dozen countries, to be exact 34, that have already declared their desire to join the activities of our group, in one way or another,” said the Russian president.

President Putin explained that a debate began “with all BRICS participants on the new category of partner states to be approved in Kazan”.

He also explained that “it is also intended to study the range of possible candidates for this category”. The announcement comes in the framework of the BRICS Security Summit, chaired by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergey Shoigu.

The representatives also embrace joint treatment to counter the “rules-based order” imposed by the West. As well as support for multipolarity and the right of countries to choose their own path of development.
