The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has disavowed the entry of U.S. planes with Colombian migrants, considering that there is no decent treatment.
The Colombian president asserted that the United States must establish a decent treatment protocol for migrants, before they are deported.
“The United States cannot treat Colombian migrants like criminals. I disapprove the entry of North American planes carrying Colombian migrants into our territory,” Petro said on his account on the social network X.
He also added that a migrant is not a criminal and must be treated with the dignity that a human being deserves. “That's why I returned the U.S. military planes that came with Colombian migrants,” he said.
“I can't make migrants stay in a country that doesn't want them; but if that country returns them, it must be with dignity and respect for them and for our country,” he said.
Petro said that if they arrive on civilian planes, without the treatment of criminals, we will receive our compatriots. “Colombia is respected,” he said.
Petro's statements come after it was announced that President Donald Trump's new administration plans to deport irregular immigrants on military planes.
