The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, spoke this Monday during the opening day of the World Food Forum 2026 of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, to formally announce that the Caribbean nation has been removed from the hunger map thanks to the implementation of sustained food policies.
Reflecting on the social reality of the shortage, the president quoted the work of the writer Martín Caparrós when he recalled that “when a person is hungry he does not dream of conquering the world, but of eating”, a premise that served as a basis for the orientation of public resources in his management.
“Combating hunger for me is not just another social policy, it's a moral obligation, and today I appear before you with an emotion that is difficult to express: the Dominican Republic has officially been removed from the FAO hunger map,” the head of state told the international delegates.
The dignitary emphasized in his speech that the eradication of the nutritional deficit in the Caribbean country went from being a technical aspiration to becoming the central goal of the Government to guarantee the sovereignty, dignity and well-being of the people.
