President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke out this Wednesday morning, at her daily press conference, against the unilateral economic sanctions implemented by the United States (USA) on Venezuela and Cuba.
The president pointed out that her position is the one historically held by her country to oppose this type of coercive measures and argued that these actions harm populations and not their governments.
“We don't agree with economic sanctions being imposed on countries. It is a constitutional principle and one of our foreign policy. They don't just affect a government, but an entire people,” he said from the National Palace.
The president recalled Mexico's historic position against the embargo against Cuba and extended her rejection to any similar measure against Venezuela.
Mexico joins the positions of countries such as Bolivia, Russia, Cuba and China, among others.
