The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, denounced an attempted coup d'etat promoted by right-wing political sectors and economic elites, following the revelation of a hoarding by pharmaceutical companies responsible for the distribution of medicines.

Petro also stated that the National Electoral Council intends to remove the legal personality of certain political parties close to or allied to progressivism, such as Humana Colombia and the Democratic Pole Party, in order to prevent their participation in the political game.

“They want a coup d'etat and are looking for it in the House Committee, taking advantage of the difference with the people. This must be known because, if not, they can surprise the unprepared people and the same thing can happen as with the Government of (Chilean President Salvador) Allende, although without as many complexities as the current ones,” he said.

He further added that this “is the way in which these parties are preparing a coup d'etat. With the Allende Government, food was hoarded for people to protest, ending up with millions of deaths.”

According to information highlighted in the Colombian press, a recent visit by the mayor of health, Johanni Rubiano, to distributors such as AUDIFARMA, it was confirmed that they were withholding the drugs and were not delivering them, since the resources for the delivery of the supplies were not being available.

It is known that evidence was presented by the superintendent, who supported the president's complaint with the anomalies that have been showing up in the health system.
