“My heart swells with joy and pride to announce that in several areas we have reached 100% of sovereign production and many of them we are exporting,” said President Nicolás Maduro, in the presentation of his Annual Message to the National Assembly.

The items that reached 100% sovereign production are: coffee, bananas, cassava, ocumo, white cheese, full liquid milk, carrots, paprika, auyama, cambur, pineapple, milkweed, guava, orange, melon, patilla, potatoes (domestic seeds), onions, fresh fish, tomatoes, beef, chicken and pork.

Maduro said that life is preparing us to be an export country in all agricultural sectors and in the entire economy; in that sense, he invited all businessmen to prepare because “this phenomenon has to reach the entire economy”.

“These numbers of agricultural and livestock production don't come out of nowhere, they are the result of a 25-year sustained effort, of the vision of the future, of the commitment, investment and the work that our Commander Hugo Chávez began to prioritize production, invest in technology and end large estates,” added the Head of State.

For his part, Minister of Popular Power for Agricultural Production and Lands, Wilmar Castro Soteldo, pointed out that everything has been achieved as a result of the efforts of peasants, producers, community members, who even have their own product brands and have been working to strengthen quality.

“There are some areas where the number of brands on the shelf has increased, where there used to be a monopoly, now we have more than 100 products in that particular category,” he said.

He also said that Venezuela has become the second largest cheese producer in the continent, surpassed only by Argentina, and this is a consequence of the increase in milk provided by buffalo cattle. “Our country is the first producer of buffalo milk in the continent, because it has the largest herd.”

In addition, he highlighted that Venezuelan goats and cattle have the best genetics in the continent, along with Mexico and Brazil, which are two countries with high genetics.
