The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, revealed that during his conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) he warned him of the danger that hangs over the human rights system established by the countries that make up this multilateral body.
After referring to the Foreign Enemies Act of the United States and calling it a violation of UN international humanitarian law, the head of state indicated that the intention to apply this North American Law by the current administration of Donald Trump, as well as the genocide that Israel is committing against the Palestinians in Gaza, constitute a deadly attack against the multilateral organization.
“I told Secretary General Guterres that just as today the World Trade Organization (WTO) is mortally wounded by the unleashed tariff war (...) and today we can say that the UN is under mortal attack and not only because of this Law because when the Zionist government of Israel launches a missile at a humanist mission there in Gaza, that missile falls on the structure of the UN,” he warned.
In this regard, he called for the defense of all mechanisms for the defense of humanitarian law and asked countries to act to prevent a repetition of the history of the extinct League of Nations, which succumbed as a result of the rise of fascism and Nazism in Europe, which destroyed that first attempt at multilateral organization.
