“Venezuelan women are a permanent challenge against imperialism, inequality and a loving and permanent rebellion.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during the launch of the Great Movement of Women's Movements “Josefa Joaquina Sánchez”, whom he defined as a “forerunner of anti-imperialism”.

He recalled that Josefa Joaquina Sánchez, together with her colleague José María España, are forerunners of the idea of equality, of non-discrimination, which are the basic ideas of socialism. “She challenged colonial imperialism face to face. The lives of these women are worthy of admiration.”

The National President stressed that “Venezuelan women were the first to come out since Hugo Chávez appeared, accompanied him and embraced him as a mother, and she was the first to take to the streets to look for him on April 11 and to shout: They have him kidnapped!”

“She was the first to face the blockade and went out to get food for her children (...) Everything can be explained because Venezuelan women are the living incarnation of the spirit of the liberators of Venezuela and America. In her blood runs the living, red and red blood of Josefa Joaquina Sánchez, Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, Ana María Campos, Josefa Camejo, Juana Ramírez, Urimara (...) and Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (the first feminist president in history)”.
