The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, asserted that Venezuela “has not only gold, not only diamonds, not only oil, gas, immense natural wealth, our Venezuela has had and has the immense spiritual wealth of its patriotic men, its patriotic women, its courageous people.”
This was stated by the head of state, in the National Pantheon, where he led the event on the occasion of the arrival of the mortal remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes.
He emphasized that many of these patriots are not known or vindicated, because “in a brutal psychological operation of decades, the empires of the world have wanted to tarnish the collective ideology of the Peoples of the South.”
“In a psychological, political and ideological operation, an attempt has been made to cover up forever the heroic history of values and resistance of our Peoples,” he reiterated.
In that sense, he argued that the first action for such an objective “is to misrepresent or make you forget, otherwise you cannot make a hero forget, then you have to misrepresent him, tarnish him or try to appropriate him as North American imperialism tried at the end of the 19th century, to appropriate Bolívar's ideology and justify his outrages.”
