This Sunday, December 22, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, expressed his regret over the physical departure of the members of Grupo Madera, Rafael Quintero.

Through his account on the social network Instagram, he stated that “who my boss was when I was 16 years old, and one of my teachers of everyday life and profound things, Rafael Quintero, from the Quintero de Marín family, has changed.

The head of state recalled that “I knew him as Vicente, back in the year 78, and he was always one, with the same joy for life, his spiritual and moral strength”.

He commented that “he took me to visit his neighborhood, Marín, San Agustín, “El Afinque de Marín “, with its drums, rhythms and keys, and the unforgettable Grupo Madera”.

He stated that “a few days ago we said goodbye, he told me that I had to leave, I told him to leave calmly and happily. That's how I see it as far as it went.”

“Until victory always!” , I told him, here we will continue, in the same battle as yours, which belongs to everyone and everyone.

President Maduro, faced with this regrettable parity, said: “Let the drums sound! We will always remember what Grupo Madera sings, what goes between rumba and rumba.”

Rafael Quintero was born in Caracas in 1956. He studied chemistry at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and, from a very young age, he focused on politics and music. He began singing at an early age with the group Los Hijos Zoila, according to a brief biography published in the publisher El Perro y la Rana.

At the age of five, he was already beginning to show his talents and to be recognized for it. He won an award singing the song “Ahead”, with which he won a pair of skates at Plaza Venezuela.

At 17, he was a member of the Organization of Revolutionaries (OR), which operated in hiding, and at 23, he joined the Madera Group, after the tragedy of August 15, 1980.
