The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, during the 9th Summit of Presidents of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, proposed creating a General Secretariat of the multinational organization and setting up video conferences between member countries every 2 months.
“Venezuela has proposed the establishment of a General Secretariat of CELAC to be directed, in order to provide timely follow-up and meeting capacity. The annual summit was held thanks to the fact that we managed to save CELAC from the onslaught of the Lima Group, which fortunately ceased to exist a long time ago,” said the President.
He also recommended that President Gustavo Petro, in his role as president of CELAC, promote new forms of communication and collaboration between nations through regular video conferences.
“The Colombian government assumes the new presidency and, in an innovative way, could begin to set a pattern of permanent work issues, where presidents, prime ministers, heads of government and heads of state are consulted and participate permanently, at least every two months, in videoconferences to address issues of vital interest,” reiterated the Head of State.
