The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that 21st century Venezuela joins the world's struggle to promote and implement the great changes of humanity, so that “there is peace and justice in the world”.

He stressed the need for a new truly human civilization to emerge, “where there are no powerful countries that intend to oppress the countries of the global South.”

“Where there are no colonial or neocolonial empires, where racism and discrimination end and relations of respect and equality can be established between the countries and States of the world and where international law is truly respected,” he argued.

This was stated at the Miraflores Palace, where he held a meeting with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan.

He also argued that Venezuela “modestly since 1820, in the midst of the War of Independence led by our great Liberator Simon Bolivar, was able to make a contribution to international humanitarian law.”

In this sense, to explain this approach, he specified that this is demonstrated in the agreements signed in November 1820, between the military leader of the Spanish empire and Bolivar, “they were called Agreements for the Regularization of the War, preceded by armistice agreements, by then, the most powerful Army in the world, which was the Spanish Army and the powerful Army of Bolivar”.

At the beginning of his speech, the head of state welcomed Khan's visit to the country. “Always welcome to Venezuela, on this fourth visit, to this peaceful, democratic Venezuela that seeks truth and justice, for now and forever as we say,” he said.
