The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Nicolás Maduro, held a telephone conversation this Tuesday with the newly elected
president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, after his
victory in the elections last Sunday, July 7.
In a statement, released by the Minister of People's
Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, it was detailed that the Venezuelan Head of
State congratulated Pezeshkian for his recent electoral victory and
both leaders “ratified the brotherhood nature of the relationship between the two countries.”
In addition, “they expressed their willingness to continue working
together to promote the long-term strategic relationship, committing themselves to
an early high-level meeting and thus continuing the plans for
cooperation and shared development”.
Pezeshkian, 69, won about 53.6% of the
vote in a second round of elections against Saeed Jalili. It will replace the
late president Ebrahim Raisi, who died last May 2024 in a helicopter
accident.
