After highlighting the victories obtained against opposition extremism financed by narco-paramilitarism led by former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, called on the People's Power, and on all intelligence and counterintelligence agencies of the State not to let down their guard to continue guaranteeing peace.
“To the four components of our glorious Bolivarian National Armed Forces, plus the special component of the National Militia, to the intelligence and counterintelligence agencies, to the Popular Power, I ask that we not let our guard down against Álvaro Uribe's paramilitarism and narco-paramilitarism,” he urged.
From the Teresa Carreño Theater, from where she presented her Annual Message to the Nation, she instructed to keep all surveillance and monitoring mechanisms active for the protection of territorial integrity.
“Let's keep the URRA (Rapid Reaction Units) active and special operations, let's keep a good eye on all border crossings, let's continue to dismantle plans of violence, let's continue to dismantle trains, the so-called trains,” he asked and insisted that “we continue to make progress in all actions that have to do with security, peace”.
“We say to the world like Víctor Jara: we defend the right to live in peace,” he said.
