During the inauguration of the 66th edition of the Arturo Michelena Hall, in the state of Carabobo, this Thursday, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the call for the Bienal del Sur 2025.
In this context, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, pointed out that art historians of the future who “want to investigate what alliances Venezuela developed at this time will have a document at that Southern Biennial because we are going to have as special guests the artists of the BRICS, from that group of countries that make up a new international reference in this multipolarity that characterizes the current time”.
He stressed that the block also has “an artistic proposal that accompanies it, which is precisely the proposal of diversity, not the cultural homogenization offered, for example, by the imperialist bloc, led by the United States and Europe, who think of a single type of culture, in a single way of conceiving the world, but rather it is the diversity expressed in those countries that have very different cultural peculiarities”.
He added that Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa “and those of us who are joining now have a diversity that characterizes us, so that the Southern Biennial of the coming year 2025 will reflect that diverse artistic discourse, not homogeneous, but which is strong precisely because of diversity”.
