The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva, defended the creation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) of the Global South to compete with rich countries.

“The ILO has an obligation to work together with the UN and countries to build an Artificial Intelligence project that is from the Global South,” said the president in a speech to the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

He explained that the idea is “to compete with the richest countries, which by creating artificial intelligence try to manipulate the rest of humanity”.

He argued that it is necessary to act so that the benefits of this technology, called to radically change the labor market, reach everyone and not “just to the same countries that always get the best part”.

In that sense, he said that artificial intelligence “is nothing more than the cunning of some companies that accumulate all the data of all human beings (...) without paying people a single penny”.

He emphasized that it is “a revolutionary task to try to change this situation”.

Da Silva also insisted that the super rich should pay more taxes to combat inequality.

In addition, he stressed that developing countries should have a greater weight in international organizations such as the ILO itself.
