Pope Francis will be discharged from the hospital this Sunday, March 23, and will require two months of rest, as reported this Saturday by one of the doctors treating the supreme pontiff.
In this regard, the Holy See Press Office reported that the religious leader will look out the window of the Gemelli Polyclinic, shortly after noon to greet and impart the blessing at the end of the Angelus.
This will be the first time, in five weeks, that Pope Francis will appear publicly, since his admission to the health center for a lung infection that affected his respiratory tract. Francisco, 88, was admitted to the hospital on February 14 with a serious respiratory infection and doctors later reported that he developed double pneumonia, which has required a constantly evolving treatment. The top representative of the Vatican suffered pleurisy in his youth and part of a lung was removed.
Although it will not be a prolonged apparition, like the prayer he usually offers on Sundays at noon in St. Peter's Square, the pontiff will offer a blessing from the window of his room at the Gemelli hospital in Rome where he has been held for more than a month for double pneumonia.
The latest Vatican bulletins on the pope's state of health remain cautiously optimistic. Last Friday, the Vatican reported that Francis reduced the use of high-flow oxygen to make it easier for him to breathe. However, one cardinal stated that it might take a while for the pontiff to “relearn to speak” after the extensive use of oxygen during his hospitalization.
