An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane crashed on December 25 in the morning near the Kazakh city of Aktau, on the banks of the Caspian, the Ministry of Emergencies of Kazakhstan reported, according to the Sputnik website.
The aircraft, an Embraer E190, was covering the route from Baku, Azerbaijan to Grozny, Russia. However, due to a thick fog at the destination airport, the plane had to be diverted, first to the Russian city of Makhachkala, and then to the Kazakh city of Aktau, they reported from Grozny airport.
In the commercial flight tracking service, you can see that the plane was flying in circles, pouring fuel. Then, at one point during the flight, the crew requested a permit for an emergency landing.
The preliminary reason was an impact against a flock of birds, which according to unconfirmed reports caused the explosion of an oxygen tank on board the aircraft.
In the videos released on social networks, you can see how the plane drops sharply and hits the ground, after which it has been engulfed in flames.
On board were 67 passengers and five crew members, of whom 32 have survived, although the final figure is yet to be determined, according to the Office of the Attorney General of Azerbaijan.
