On March 4, 1898, the Venezuelan poet Pío Tamayo was born in Tocuyo, Lara state, who stood out for being a pioneer of Marxist-Leninist thought on the continent, which turned it into a seed for the formation of left-wing leaders that would later form the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV).

His fight for the cause of the peoples, led him to promote peasant organization from a very young age, by promoting the idea of forming cooperatives, as well as the self-management of services that resulted in the founding of the first low-cost public transport in Barquisimeto and Tocuyo.

His participation in conspiracy activities against the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez forced him to flee the country, with Puerto Rico as his first destination, then the United States and Cuba, the latter being where he participated in the formation of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

During his stay on the island, he collaborated in the magazines Free Venezuela” and “Universitaria, while at the same time he joined a group of anti-gomecist Venezuelans and actively participated in the “Anti-Imperialist League of the Americas collaborating in the publication “The Liberator”.

After his arrival in Colombia, in Barranquilla, he founded the Venezuelan Workers' Union, a Marxist-inspired organization in favor of the conscience and unity of the working class.

After a trip to Central America from where he was expelled from Panama, Guatemala and managed to settle in Costa Rica, he returned to Venezuela, after an amnesty promoted by the Gomecist dictatorship. In the country, he joins as a collaborator in the magazine "Elite" and in the newspaper "Mundial . He is one of the organizers of Student Week 1928, so he is accused of conspiracy activities and imprisoned.

In prison, he founded “The Red Tent”, a space for political formation, study and debate where he teaches boys and brings them into contact with the foundations of Marxism-Leninism. This is one of the events that serves as a pillar in the founding of the PCV, promoting the formation of young people such as Rodolfo Quintero, Kotepa Delgado, Miguel Otero Silva, Juan Bautista Fuenmayor, Fernando Key Sánchez, Miguel Acosta Saignes, Angel Márquez and Raúl Osorio, all founders of the awning of the red rooster.

After six years in prison, he contracted tuberculosis and was released in December 1934. On October 5, 1935, Pío Tamayo died at the age of 37, immortalizing himself in the consciousness of the peoples who, inspired by his example, fight for the construction of a more just society free of imperialism.
