The Philippines established a state of alert in parts of the north and center of the country, after tropical storm Man-yi received the category of supertyphoon this Saturday, November 16, as the phenomenon progresses towards the Bicol Peninsula, in the southeastern tip of the island of Luzon, according to the Telesur website.
Due to the magnitude represented by Man-y i, more than 255,000 people were evacuated, as the phenomenon is expected to make landfall this day with winds of up to 230 kilometers per hour.
The waves, according to the diagnosis made by the Philippine Meteorological Agency, can reach a height of up to 14 meters around Catanduanes and are potentially deadly tides.
To date, 163 people have lost their lives in the five previous storms that hit the territory, which in turn caused significant damage in several social and economic spheres.
The Philippines established a state of alert in parts of the north and center of the country in the face of the advance of Man-yi, the sixth cyclone to hit the archipelago in less than a month. The super typhoon was described as unusual by NASA.
Although the Philippines usually experiences about twenty cyclones a year, the country has experienced a rapid succession of storms in recent weeks that have claimed the lives of more than 160 people and forced tens of thousands to evacuate pre-emptively.
