The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, called general elections this Tuesday, March 25, for general elections for April 12, 2026, in order to renew both the Executive and the Legislative.
In a review of the Russia Today portal, he highlights that in an unexpected message to the nation and flanked by electoral authorities, Boluarte indicated that on that day the Andean country will have “an appointment with history”, in an election that includes deputies and senators, in the return to bicameralism.
“The Government I lead is committed to maintaining absolute neutrality and impartiality so that the results of this electoral process are unquestionable and fully reflect the popular will expressed at the polls,” he said.
The head of state called for a “de-escalation scenario”, amid rumors of a new impeachment attempt against her.
“We want a campaign based on proposals that guarantee growth, social justice and development,” he urged.
In addition to the President, deputies and senators of the new bicameral Congress, the Peruvian population will also vote for their representatives to the Andean Parliament.
In this way, the process formally begins with which citizens will elect the person to replace Boluarte in office, obtained since December 7, 2022, after the then president, Pedro Castillo, was dismissed after trying to dissolve the Parliament.
