On March 14, 1870, the Venezuelan composer and musician Pedro Elías Gutiérrez Hart, co-author of the Joropo Alma Llanera, was born in Macuto, La Guaira state, whose homonymous musical theme is considered Venezuela's second national anthem.

He was the son of the military, legislator and politician general Jacinto Gutiérrez and Sofía Ana Hart. He completed his first studies at the “Santa María de Caracas” School.

At the age of 19, he premiered his first musical work, entitled "Symphony “, at the Municipal Theater of Caracas, so the president of the Republic, of that time, Juan Pablo Rojas Paúl, attended the concert and won him a scholarship to study in the European continent.

He began professional activity as a musician, in the Federal District Marching Band, now known as the “Banda Marcial Caracas”, as a double bass player in 1901 where he became director for the period between 1909 and 1946.

For this band he made countless transcriptions and adaptations. One of the many pieces he composed, brought him worldwide fame: El Alma Llanera, the eponymous zarzuela in one act and three paintings, premiered in Caracas on September 10, 1914 and written by Rafael Bolívar Coronado.
