During the XVII Ordinary Plenary Session of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat), held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the members of the Latin American delegation reoriented their position in favor of multilateralism, democratic order, peace and interregional cohesion, in accordance with a statement by the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) reported on the Prensa Latina portal.
The event, led by the head of PARLATINO, Rolando González, took place within the framework of EuroLat's two-decade history.
The conference concluded with the signing of a political manifesto signed jointly by PARLATINO, PARLANDINO, PARLACEN, PARLASUR and the mixed delegations of Mexico and Chile with the European Bloc, outlining an action plan focused on addressing the global agenda through parliamentary dialogue.
Among its most important resolutions, the representative of the bloc ratified the Declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, claimed sovereign control over the region's mineral and strategic resources, urged to energize the links between CELAC and the European Union, and agreed that the future ownership of the General Secretariat of the United Nations should rest on Latin American leadership.
Central aspects of the statement:
Security and the Fight against Organized Crime: The urgency of coordinating joint response mechanisms to transnational drug trafficking networks, cybercrimes and illegal economies that threaten regional governance was emphasized.
Trade and Sustainable Development: Support for the strengthening of bilateral and regional association agreements, promoting equitable trade exchanges that promote energy transition, environmental preservation and social inclusion.
Technology and Artificial Intelligence: Called to build shared regulatory frameworks to ensure ethical digital transformation, the protection of personal data and the safety of minors in the digital environment.
Defense of Multilateralism: Reaffirmation of the commitment to parliamentary diplomacy, respect for international law and the search for dialogued solutions to global conflicts.
With this meeting, PARLATINO reaffirmed the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a fundamental channel to bring the social priorities of the Latin American region closer to the debate with its European counterparts.
