The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHA), issued a surveillance warning this Friday, March 29, in which high temperatures and high wind chill are expected in eight provinces of the Isthmian nation, the Telesur website reported.

The IMHA reported that “the regions under notice are Chiriqui, the center and south of Veraguas, Los Santos, Herrera, Coclé, West Panama, Panama, Darién and the Emberá region.”

He also said that “we are continuing with the transition season from dry to rainy, in which another period will be present with fairly warm conditions throughout the country, due to a high incidence of solar radiation causing high temperatures”

In addition, he noted that the wind chill will be high over Panamanian territory, so he extended the surveillance warning until 23:59 (local time) on Wednesday, April 3, due to the forecast of temperatures ranging between 31 and 38 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 67% to 84%, which will give a wind chill of 34 to 45 degrees Celsius.

He also predicted that during daytime hours temperatures will reach categories between extreme caution and precaution due to danger.

In this regard, he warned that the conditions will generate the possibility of sunstroke, cramps and heat stroke due to extended exposure to the sun or physical activity.

The IMHA issued a warning of vigilance for the possibility of fire occurrences, which will be in effect until 23:59 (local time) on Tuesday, April 2.

For their part, health authorities warned people to hydrate and wear sun protection, as well as appropriate clothing.
