The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) delivered more than 27 tons of supplies to eight hospitals in the states of La Guaira and Miranda, as well as in the city of Caracas, to support medical care and the recovery of centers affected by the earthquakes of June 24.
PAHO indicated that the equipment includes personal protective equipment, materials for hospital disinfection and tools to recover spaces, with the purpose of strengthening infection control and protecting the more than 3,000 patients who attend these centers daily.
As reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), the aid reached the José María Vargas, Martín Vegas, Peripheral Pariata and Emergency Services of Naiguatá, in La Guaira; Pérez Carreño, Peripheral of Catia and Magallanes de Catia, in Caracas; and Domingo Luciani, in Miranda state.
“Our emergency received 1,280 people in the first three days,” said the deputy director of the José María Vargas Hospital, Yoannis Herrera, about the work carried out by the center, which recently reopened 14 services.
The delivery was carried out with the support of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
