The Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Vladimir Padrino López, highlighted the work of peasant and producer women in Venezuela, pointing out that land tenure by this sector exceeds 34%, a figure that contrasts with international averages.
The head of Agriculture compared the national reality with global statistics. “FAO recognizes that in the region the average tenure of land by women does not exceed 18%; here in Venezuela, with our inclusion and social justice project, land tenure exceeds 34%,” she said, reiterating that the Executive will continue to implement policies to close gender gaps in the field.
During the inauguration of a school for training and peasant leadership, Padrino López indicated that this space seeks to combine ancient knowledge with the scientific training of the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA). “Food sovereignty has the face of a woman, the face of a peasant, a community member and a producer,” she said.
Padrino López also noted that school feeding programs and care for older adults depend directly on the efforts of rural women. Finally, he indicated that the new training school will address structural challenges in the sector, such as climate change, and sent a message of recognition to the country's peasants and community women.
