OMAR RAMONES PRIETO ASSASSINATED BY DIGEPOL

- The 26-year-old worker, Omar Ramones Prieto, was attending the celebration of the Tenth Anniversary of the Youth of the Communist Party of Venezuela (JPCV), in the immediate vicinity of Plaza Capuchinos, when armed AD gangs, accompanied by Digepol officials, infiltrated it to produce bloody acts.
- During the demonstration, slogans were shouted and propaganda launched alluding to the 10 years of struggle of that youth organization.
- Several digepoles and adecos managed to get into the ranks of the crowd, pointing out the most important leaders present there.
- One of them, identified as Antonio Bracho Noguera, approached Ramones Prieto and shot him at point-blank range. Once he fell to the ground, the agent was vicious and shot him off with butt and kick.
- The other Digepoles began shooting left and right at the demonstrators, shooting after them, injuring two and arresting a third.
- This group of police officers, associated with members of the AD paramilitary gangs, was led by Atahualpa Montes, who was acting under the orders of Carlos Andrés Pérez, in charge of the Ministry of Internal Relations.
- Omar Ramones Prieto was briefly imprisoned during the dictatorship.
- At the time of Romulus Betancourt, he was imprisoned seven times, until that day was scheduled for his execution. ****
- Omar Ramones Prieto was born in 1936, in Edo. Aragua. He was the son of Ramón Ramones, one of the founders of AD. He left behind a widow and a son younger than four months old.
- That same day, another young member of the JPCV was also assassinated: Jesús Osuna.
