The Norwegian government recognized Palestine as a State. The decision will take effect on May 28. At the same time, Ireland joined the nations of the European Union (EU) that recognize the State of Palestine, said Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris.

Irish authorities once again called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of Israeli hostages and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, Russia Today (RT) said.

Ireland recognizes the State of Palestine in a spirit of peace in a coordinated announcement with our friends and colleagues in Spain and Norway,” the nation said.

The Irish Prime Minister, Simon Harris, stressed that this highlights that the existence of “two States is the only way for Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and security”.

“Once again, I call on Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel to listen to the world and stop the humanitarian catastrophe we are seeing in Gaza,” he said.

The Irish Foreign Minister, Micheál Martin, said that “today's decision by the Government represents our conviction that a political path is the only way to break the cycle of dispossession, subjugation, dehumanization, terrorism and death that has ruined the lives of Israelis and Palestinians for decades.”
