The Government of Nigeria confirmed on Tuesday the detection of its first case of Ebola in a woman who arrived in the capital, Abuja, on a flight from Uganda, after being held for several days in a private medical facility before the definitive diagnosis.

According to information provided by Telesur, the Nigerian Minister of Health, Muhamad Ali Pate, explained that health authorities identified 44 close contacts, deploying tracking equipment to follow up on passengers, medical personnel, patients and caregivers who interacted with the affected person.

Faced with the discovery of the virus, the National Executive issued a maximum alert aimed at the network of public and private hospitals in the African country, with the aim of strengthening isolation protocols and preventing possible community outbreaks.

The detection of this case expands the epidemic to West Africa, after the outbreak that began in May in the Democratic Republic of the Congo accumulated previous reports of infection and infection in Kenya.
