Nigeria celebrates its 64th anniversary of independence with a wreath to the Liberator

Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Nigeria were established in 1965 and have been framed in respect and cooperation.

On the occasion of commemorating the 64th anniversary of the independence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the chargé d'affaires of the African nation, Badewole Jhonson, accompanied by the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruíz, presented a floral offering before the sarcophagus that holds the mortal remains of the Father of the Fatherland, Simon Bolivar.

The activity, carried out in the Mausoleum of the Liberator, was attended by accredited diplomatic representations in the country of: Palestine, Belarus, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar, Equatorial Guinea, Saint Vincent, South Africa, Guyana, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Egypt.

Nigeria's independence from the yoke of Great Britain occurred on October 1, 1960, when the country received its Freedom Charter from the hands of Princess Alexandra of Kent, the queen's representative.

The letter was read by the first Prime Minister, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who announced the country's independence in his speech read at what was then known as the “Racecourse”.

Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Nigeria were established in 1965 and have been framed by respect and cooperation, resulting in the signing of 21 common projects in areas such as communication and information, defense, the fight against money laundering, air services, among others.
