Brotherhood, respect, cooperation and the promotion of commercial relations were the central point during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, held in the city of Abuya.

The diplomatic event took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, attended by ambassadors from the Latin American and Caribbean Group (Grulac), and those from African countries accredited in Abuja, together with business groups from the oil, mining, construction and trade sectors, as well as personalities and special guests, who came together to highlight the ties of brotherhood that both nations have historically maintained.

The ceremony was led by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and the Venezuelan ambassador accredited to the African nation, Alberto Castellar.

As part of the celebration, the Foreign Ministers of Nigeria and Venezuela, Ambassador Yosuf Maitama Tuggar and Yván Gil, respectively, expressed their joy and sent a special greeting, projected through a video, during the event.

Minister Yosuf Maitama Tuggar described his country's relations with Venezuela as a miracle, based on cooperation and mutual respect. “Six decades of collaboration, shared values and a commitment that has united us,” he said.

In addition, he highlighted the work carried out in areas of common interest, including trade, education, culture and diplomacy.

He also emphasized the strategic partnership in the oil and energy sector. “Nigeria and Venezuela have coordinated policies on oil production and the price of oil to stabilize the global market. This cooperation has not only strengthened our economies, but it has also reinforced our shared commitment to energy security and sustainability,” he said.

For his part, Foreign Minister Yván Gil thanked his Nigerian counterpart for the message. “We join their call for a future full of shared achievements,” he said.
