The Government of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega, declared this Friday, November 15, a state of Yellow Alert throughout the country in the face of tropical storm Sara.
The FuserNews portal points out that the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Response (Sinapred) announced this Friday that it has activated response plans in coordination with its delegates, prioritizing the most vulnerable areas in the country.
Ortega gave the order to the corresponding institutions to immediately activate civil protection protocols that involve the preparation of shelters for those potentially affected, to review the availability of resources and to ensure the functioning of the communication media to and from communities, among other tasks.
For their part, local and international media say that the vice-president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, announced the preventive measure against the phenomenon that has also affected other regions of Central America.
“It is a preventive and protective alert against what we are experiencing and we have to warn that there is saturation and humidity in the soils and there may be landslides,” he said.
“This measure is to protect us, rain is expected for the next three days,” Murillo added.
According to a statement issued by the authorities, rain is expected in Nicaragua for at least the next three days, mainly in the North Pacific region.
