This Wednesday, the application of so-called reciprocal tariffs by the Government of the United States (USA) that exceed 50%, came into force for those countries belonging to the European Union (EU) and the People's Republic of China.
The imposition of this new rate was determined by the high volumes of trade surpluses and imports with the US. In the case of the EU, for example, the tariffs that will be paid starting today increase from 10% to 20%, while in countries such as Lesotho or Laos they are around 50%.
Regarding China, the situation is exceptional since it initially decided that the rate to be paid for US imports would be 4%, Telesur details.
The US replied that, if it did not retract, the rate for the Asian giant in the North American nation would increase by 50%, in retaliation for the reciprocal response proposed by Beijing.
