The City Council of Caracas approved two new ordinances aimed at transforming urban life and strengthening popular power in the city. Ordinances number 22 and 23, given to the people of Caracas, reflect the commitment of the Building Body in the 2024 Legislative Period.
The first of these, approved in Ordinary Session 140, is the Ordinance for the Use of Pedestrian Walks, promoted by the Permanent Committee on Public Works and Roads, chaired by Councilman José Reyes. This regulation seeks to promote a more efficient and safe use of pedestrian spaces, encouraging coexistence and the enjoyment of public space. The initiative comes after an exhaustive process of consultations and legislative panels that involved the community, ensuring that the voices of citizens are heard in decision-making.
On the other hand, Ordinance number 23, regulating the Transfer of Attributions to Grassroots Organizations of Popular Power, was presented by the Permanent Committee on Legislative Development under the direction of Councilman Alexander Aranguren. This regulation aims to empower community organizations, allowing them to manage resources and make decisions that directly impact their communities. This effort aligns with the fundamental principle of offering the greatest possible amount of happiness for all the inhabitants of Caracas.
With these approvals, the Building Body reaffirms its commitment to a more inclusive and participatory Caracas. The new ordinances not only improve urban infrastructure, but they also strengthen the social fabric by giving voice and power to Caracas communities.
