Néstor Kirchner: The leader who raised awareness in Argentina (+birth)

On February 25, 1950, the former president of Argentina, Néstor Kirchner, was born in Patagonia, noted for his anti-imperialist political strategy in defense of the Great Homeland.

Kirchner became a leader who raised awareness in Argentina, made his country a prosperous nation and today he is remembered with deep affection for his people.

Upon coming to the presidency, Néstor Kirchner focused on regional unity, especially with Venezuela and Brazil, on the one hand, a distance from the US Government due to its position with Free Trade Agreements.

In addition to this, Kirchner experienced an increase in international reserves from $10,476 million (2002) to $52.2 billion (2010).

He recognized the supportive character of Commander Hugo Chávez: “The Argentine people are truly very grateful to the Venezuelan people and to your beloved government Hugo, that in the most difficult moments, when no one looked at Argentina, we had the supportive attitude of the Venezuelan government and people. Something that we will never forget,” said the late and former Southern president.

Kirchnerism will be remembered for the renewal of the discredited Supreme Court of Justice and the regional alliance it promoted together with the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and of Venezuela, the Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez.

He was one of the founders, together with Chávez, of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), being the first general secretary of this body until the day of his death and promoted the defense of the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR).

This leader and brother illuminated the paths of his beloved Argentina and his legacy continues in every struggle of the people. He died of a heart attack on October 27, 2010.
