At least four people died and 12 others remain missing after a massive avalanche of snow in Nepal, a disaster that completely buried the base camp of Himlung Peak, a peak of 7,126 meters high located near the border with Tibet.
The avalanche occurred unexpectedly during the early hours of Sunday morning, covering under dense layers of snow the tents and facilities where hikers and technical staff were housed.
Mountaineering authorities in the Asian country confirmed that rescue bodies have managed to recover four bodies so far, while deploying tracking operations to locate workers and expeditionaries who are still under the accumulated rubble.
However, adverse weather conditions in the mountain range and the complexity of the high mountain terrain have slowed down relief efforts, forcing emergency teams to take extreme measures in the counterintuitive search for potential survivors.
