  • On October 31, 1967, at 11:00am, Nelson López was ambushed by officials of the General Directorate of Police (DIGEPOL) very close to the Prados del Este dome.
  • This young man, a member of the Youth of the Communist Party of Venezuela (JPCV), was arrested and later shot while driving his car, a white Dodge Dart, and from that moment on he disappeared.
  • However, an anonymous informant alerted his party's militants, stating that he had been killed in the back on an access road on the old road from Baruta to Prados del Este.
  • Nelson López, was one of the most active cadres of the JPCV:
    • In 1963, he was arrested for the first time and was transferred to the anti-guerrilla camp set up and run by the armed gangs of AD, in Cabure, Falcón state.
    • There he was subjected to all kinds of mistreatment and torture.
    • In 1965, he participated in the general transportation strike, and then he joined the plan to escape political prisoners from the San Carlos Barracks.
    • From then on, together with the engineer Simon Nehemet Chagin “El Árabe”, he was the architect of the excavation of the tunnel that would give freedom to the communist leaders in February 1967, who had been unconstitutionally detained since 1963.
  • Since 1958, Nelson López joined the ranks of the PCV in the fight against the pro-imperialist servile policies of the Punto Fijo Pact and the repressive agencies of the State.
  • After his first arrest, he operated clandestinely in Caracas, where he was the victim of the infamous allegation of a traitor named Echarry, who put him in the hands of the police executioners who ended his life.
  • López was a native of Santa Juana, near Cabure, Falcón state; he was politically educated by Raúl Henríquez, a legendary revolutionary patriarch who fought in the Sierra de Churuguara.
