  • This young member of the Youth of the Communist Party of Venezuela (JCV) was killed when he was leaving his shell, located on the Old Road of Baruta, driving his vehicle, a white Dodge Dart.
  • It was nothing more than a murder executed in cold blood, of which there was no trial or investigation.
  • Nelson López, was one of the most active cadres in the JCV:
    • In 1963, he was arrested for the first time and transferred to the anti-guerrilla camp Theater of Operations (TO) No. 1, set up and run by the armed bands of Democratic Action (AD), in Cabure, Falcón state. There he was ill-treated and tortured.
    • In 1965, he participated in the general transportation strike and later joined the plan to escape political prisoners from the San Carlos Barracks.
    • From then on, together with the engineer Simon Nehemet “El Árabe”, he was the architect of the excavations of the tunnel that would release, on February 6, 1967, several communist leaders who had been unconstitutionally detained since 1963.
  • At the time of his assassination, Nelson López was acting as a clandestine assistant to one of the escapees from the San Carlos Barracks, Guillermo García Ponce.
  • Nelson, after the spectacular escape and accomplishment of his mission, was offered a scholarship to study abroad, which he refused to continue fighting under the orders of García Ponce.
  • Since 1958, Nelson López joined the ranks of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) in the fight against the pro-imperialist servile policies of the Fijo Pact and the repressive agencies of the State.
  • After his first arrest, he operated clandestinely in Caracas, where he was the victim of the infamous allegation of a traitor known as “Echarry”, who placed him in the hands of the police executioners who ended his life.
  • Nelson López was a native of Santa Juana, near Cabure, edo. Falcon. He was politically educated by Raúl Henríquez, a legendary revolutionary patriarch who fought from the Sierra de Churuguara against the Betancourt government.
