Last Wednesday, the media of the United States (USA) reported that dozens of American soldiers were deployed in Cyprus in the midst of a marked escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, and are preparing for a series of contingencies.
Telesur explained that previously the Pentagon's press secretary, Major General Pat Ryder, had announced that the U.S. military would deploy “a small number of U.S. military personnel” but declined to say the number of troops and the characteristics of the contingent.
The deployment comes one day after Tel Aviv confirmed that it had received $8.7 billion to support Israel's “war efforts”.
The United Kingdom announced on Tuesday that it will send 700 troops to Cyprus under the pretext of preparing for a possible emergency evacuation of British citizens from Lebanon if necessary.
An Israeli security official told the French news agency, AFP, that any Israeli land invasion of Lebanon would be carried out as quickly as possible.
