The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, declared October 5 as National Salsa Day in Venezuela, following the request made to him by artists, cultivators and creators who promoted this declaration in honor of the birth of the father of salsa, Phidias Danilo Escalona.

In 2020, it was the first time that this day was celebrated in Venezuela, thanks to the initiative of 1,400 musicians, composers, arrangers, choreographers, communicators and music lovers, who signed a request addressed to the president.

The announcer Phidias Danilo Escalona, a native of the parish of La Pastora, is considered to be the father of the word “salsa”, because this is how he named this Caribbean rhythm, which in other countries they call son, guaracha, among others.

Venezuelan salsa is a reference in the world for its musical composition, its dance, an expression of the warmth of our country's neighborhood.
