The Internal Policy Committee of the National Assembly (AN) will begin an investigation into death threats against the opposition mayor of Barinas, Pedro Abreu, after declaring himself independent and supporting the candidate of the revolutionary forces, Nicolás Maduro.

This was reported by the President of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, at a press conference in which he denounced the hate crimes of which the regional president has been a victim for breaking away from extremism and its violence.

“In my capacity as president of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, we have decided to request that the Committee on Internal Policy of the National Assembly, headed by Diosdado Cabello Rondón, immediately initiate an investigation into the death threats and threats of terrorist action of which this mayor Pedro Antonio Abreu may have been a victim.”

He also indicated that the Public Ministry (MP) of the South American nation was also asked for an inquiry to determine the responsibility for the threats received by the mayor.
