The National Assembly (AN) approved the appointment of Capaya Rodríguez González as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Venezuela to the Republic of the Philippines, with the purpose of maintaining cooperation ties and bilateral dialogue between the two nations, in accordance with article 187 of the Constitution.

Deputy Lila Brazón, in charge of presenting the proposal on behalf of the Foreign Policy, Sovereignty and Integration committee, highlighted the diplomat's career. Rodríguez González is a lawyer graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), she served as Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, and to date she served as ambassador to India. “Their diplomatic experience and negotiating skills will ensure efficient management,” said the parliamentarian.

Regarding the context of the bilateral relationship, Brazón indicated that both nations have maintained ties since 1968, adding up to 58 years of multilateral cooperation. The legislator recalled that Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia recently met at the UN with his Philippine counterpart to discuss energy, mining and agricultural issues, which were included by the appointee in his work plan.

After the presentation of the respective work plan to the standing committee and its unanimous approval, the plenary approved the appointment to continue promoting economic and political exchanges between Caracas and Manila. With this decision, the Legislative Branch confirms its support for the civil servant's career in the Venezuelan foreign service.
