In commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of their birth and in homage to their lives and works, the National Library of Venezuela (BNV) opened the exhibition “Centennial Artists”, which highlights the work of nine great Venezuelan visual artists, musicians, writers and cultors who marked the history of art in the country.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the Juan Germán Roscio Exhibition Hall was the space dedicated to the display of artistic exhibitions by Luisa Palacios, Pascual Navarro, Jesús Soto, Carmen Delia Bencomo, Oswaldo Vigas, Isidora Agnes, Rodrigo Riera and Alirio Díaz, a heterogeneous group of the 1923 generation, which stood out for their talents and important contributions artistic in their respective disciplines.
In this regard, the curator of the exhibition, Wladimir Romero, highlighted the impact that art has on society and on each individual. He also highlighted the profoundly nationalist bond with which these artists felt linked and identified with their homeland and their peoples.
“They lived through a very interesting time, because it was a time when the country was beginning an important development, and they had the notion that their artistic work was part of it,” he said. At the same time, he specified that these artists “wherever they were, here or abroad, Venezuela was always at the center of their considerations, which is why their art contributed to the modernization of the country and has been present ever since.”
The Deputy Minister of Identity and Cultural Diversity, Ignacio Barreto, pointed out the importance of highlighting the work of these references in Venezuelan art so that they “serve as a compass for new generations.”
For his part, the director general of the BNV, Jorge Berrueta, thanked the workers who managed to materialize this significant exhibition, which only highlights the Venezuelan cultural contribution to humanity.
