This Thursday, December 26, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute to the revolutionary former president of Panama Omar Torrijos, known for his land redistribution policies.

“He was the man who rescued dignity and independence, and the land of Panama, which is the land of Bolivar, because they didn't give him the independence of Panama, Bolívar gave it to him and Omar Torrijo took it back,” he said.

He stated that “if I were Panamanian I would paint my face on all the walls of Panama City or Colón, Chorrillos, and with the face of Omar Torrijos, the flag of free Panama and his thoughts.”

Mentioning one of Torrijo's thoughts, the head of state, said: “he said one day, standing or dead, but never on his knees.”

“We feel in our hearts Omar Torrijos, the greatest Bolivarian to have been born in today's Panamanian land, which were lands of the united original and Bolivarian Gran Colombia,” he said during the broadcast of his program Maduro Live de Repente.
