President Nicolás Maduro,
during the presentation of his Annual Message to the National Assembly, reported
that the economic growth of Venezuela as a whole during 2023, exceeded
5% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In that regard, he noted that it was the
highest growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. “Another achievement conquered, achieved, materialized, in a time of blockade, persecution and sabotage.”
“For this year, we will continue with
the policy of boosting domestic production, recovering national income and workers,
and we are projecting a growth in Venezuela's GDP of
8% of the national economy and we are going to once again lead the economic growth of
our region in a sustainable, sustainable recovery,” he said.
He also argued that in
order to overcome oil rentism, “the activities for the
diversification of our economy during 2023 were also focused on the
production and export of chemicals, food, beverages, tobacco, metals, manufacturing, which meant an important, modest, but important
income for the country's needs of 758 million dollars in non-oil exports.”
The Head of State insisted that the important thing about this figure is what is behind it, “a thriving, persevering Venezuela that learned to reinvent itself in the face of difficulties, that believed in itself, that never demoralized or surrendered.”
