The National Assembly will ask the Executive to break diplomatic, commercial and consular relations with Spain, after the Congress of that country's ignorance of the electoral victory, on July 28, of President Nicolás Maduro.

The president of the Legislative Branch, Jorge Rodríguez, instructed the deputies who are members of the AN's foreign policy committee to develop a report asking the Venezuelan Head of State to make this decision.

“They want a fight, so do we. What the Spanish Congress did is the equivalent of a declaration of war against the Venezuelan people and against their legitimately constituted government. We are not going to accept it,” he stressed while assuring that this decision of the Spanish parliament is similar to those that occurred in 2019 when they recognized the imaginary government of Juan Guaidó.

In the same way, Rodríguez stressed that Venezuela is an independent nation that was emancipated from the Spanish empire more than two centuries ago, so our people, for whom liberating blood flows, are “willing to do anything but renounce our sovereignty.”

“Once and for all, they must understand that they must respect Venezuela. If they don't respect, they will have commercial activities with any country but Venezuela. What need do we have to have diplomatic and consular relations with a country, with a State that does not respect us?” , he noted.

In addition, the head of the Legislative Branch stressed that the kingdom of Spain has become a haven for violent, fascists and coup plotters, since they have taken on the task of welcoming fugitives from Venezuelan justice such as Leopoldo López, Antonio Ledezma and Enzo Franchini, accused of the murder of Orlando Figuera.
