The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, reported that the Public Ministry (MP) has received 317,584 complaints of cases of gender-based violence since 2017, through public offices, squares, parks or places where the institution has made an appearance.

In statements to the media, he explained that it has been possible to “prosecute and charge 74,037 individuals who have committed these regrettable acts against women and 62,392 accusations have been prosecuted,” of which 6,788 have been for convictions that become sentences.

The official indicated that the MP activated for all women, mothers, housewives and everything that has to do with the women's protection movement, the telephone line 0800- 6853767 (0800-womenmp) to be a direct reporting channel against gender-based violence. He stated that “it is a totally safe and anonymous instrument”.

He also indicated that the Victim Care Unit is also available, “with prosecutors dedicated to comprehensive surveillance of girls, adolescents and women and to protect the dignity of this most vulnerable sector.”

William Saab reported that this service is free and its main objective is to guide crime victims and, in addition, to provide advice, support, information and education about their rights, in order to ensure their correct and timely intervention in criminal proceedings.
