The attorney general of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, announced
this Thursday that the Public Ministry (MP) opened a criminal investigation into the murder threats against the prosecutor who is handling the case of
former extremist opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
“I must say that a criminal
investigation has been opened against those who have threatened the prosecutor who is conducting the investigation between
e-mail and WhatsApp messages, they are hate crimes,” said William Saab during a press conference
with national and international media.
He revealed that the Prosecutor's Office has “the expertise of 400 messages,
including emails and WhatsApp messages. Who are they to
do this? Expose your family to derision. Or aren't these
hate crimes?” , he rebuked.
Providing details about the meeting he held with Edmundo González's
lawyer on Wednesday, the prosecutor stressed that “they have
escalated to launch a waterfall of threats, but here no one gives up nor is there fear.”
