Moscow warns of “negative consequences” to Ecuador for sending Russian weapons to the US

The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, María
Zakharova, criticized this Wednesday the decision of the Government of Ecuador to
hand over Soviet weapons to the United States (USA), which could also later be sent to Ukraine.
In this regard, he warned that these actions will damage
relations between Moscow and Quito. “In the case of the delivery of military assets to
a third party, Ecuador will violate its international commitments, and this will have
negative consequences for our future bilateral interaction,”
he said at a press conference.
According to Zakharova, Russia transmitted its position on this to the
South American country, pointing out “the specific points of the
agreements and contracts” linked to Russian military supplies to
Ecuador, which it would violate if it re-exports them to the United States.
This comes after the decision of the Ecuadorian president,
Daniel Noboa, to exchange Russian military equipment, considered by
Quito to be “scrap”, for American equipment valued at about 200 million dollars.
“If it were scrap, as they call it in Ecuador, Washington would
hardly propose to exchange it for modern equipment, by the way,
for a fairly large amount. Let's hope Quito understands it that way,” argued
the diplomatic representative.
